Palmetto Health to close Palmetto Health Child Development Center

07/21/2010

Palmetto Health recently concluded an evaluation of the utilization and cost of maintaining the onsite child care facility on the Palmetto Health Richland campus. As a result, Palmetto Health has decided to close the Palmetto Health Child Development Center, operated by Bright Horizons, effective September 17. Ninety-three children are affected by the closing. Fifty-four of them are the children of 39 Palmetto Health employees.

In order to facilitate the transition for Palmetto Health employees who utilize the center, Human Resources and Bright Horizons are partnering to help them find alternative arrangements for their child care needs. Informational meetings and one-on-one consultations are being made available to assist these families with the transition to alternative centers in the area. Additionally, Palmetto Health is providing transitional financial assistance of $1,000 per child to each employee with enrolled children.

“We understand that the closure of the daycare affects families and children and that’s difficult for everyone—the Palmetto Health family and the families we have served,” said Trip Gregory, senior vice president of Human Resources. “However, in tight economic times, we have to evaluate every program to ensure we are being fiscally responsible while concentrating on our primary services.”
